Emmanuel Jean-Michel Frédéric Macron, born on 21 December 1977, is the youngest president in the history of France and the youngest head of state the country has had since Napoleon. Macron was re-elected at the age of 48 and is the first French president in 20 years to win a second term in office – an achievement last attained by Jacques Chirac.
Macron grew up in a non-religious family. He is the son of Jean-Michel Macron, a professor of neurology, and Françoise Macron, a physician. He is married to Brigitte Trogneux, his former teacher, who is almost 25 years older than he is. The two met when Macron was a 15-year-old student and she was a 39-year-old teacher. They married in 2007 and have no children together.
